We took some time to chat with our newest staff member to find out a little more about her journey to join our team. Meet Amy Marshall, TalentSpark RPO Recruiter!
TalentSpark: How did you find your way into recruiting?
Amy: After I graduated from college, I started off in a sales position and then moved my way into a Human Resources Coordinator role that I held for 6 years. I found myself enjoying the recruiting aspects of my HR position, and when I moved to Boise with my family in 2019 I knew I wanted a role where recruiting was the main focus. Serendipitously, I came across an opening at TalentSpark and have enjoyed my time here in the Gem State supporting great Idaho businesses in their search for top talent.
T: What do you like best about being an RPO recruiter for TalentSpark? Could you please describe what RPO means to those unfamiliar with the term?
A: Having autonomy and building relationships with peers are two highlights for me. I’ve had the opportunity to work in different corporate environments which have provided me insights into different structures of business. For me, collaborating with others and getting to see new processes has widened my perspective and helped me be more successful at my own work.
RPO stands for Recruitment Process Outsourcing and is the full or partial outsourcing of a business’s recruiting objectives. RPO recruiters provide recruiting support to their clients, often onsite, to help them meet their hiring needs.
T: What do you enjoy most about working onsite with TalentSpark clients?
A: Working on an RPO project has allowed me to become a subject matter expert at several things and continue my learning. Building relationships with various people throughout the industry has also been a highlight. I enjoy integrating into our client’s recruiting operations because it allows me to really understand their business and learn from other recruiters on the team.
T: What are your greatest learnings? Your secrets to success?
A: In the words of Stephen Hawking, “there should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at.”
One of my greatest learnings is that you’re always going to have unforeseen issues that arise and having the ability to reach out to others and solve problems is an underrated skill. Whether it be new technology or new processes, the business world is constantly changing but I’ve found collaborating with others makes the process better for everyone.
T: What are some of your internal measures of success?
A: It’s human to want to bring about change and add value to our daily lives both at home and at work. I’ve found that helping people work together as a team can result in better outcomes than what an individual can achieve on their own.
I enjoy helping to facilitate that process. For me, reaching for that next opportunity to “go above and beyond” to support our client’s needs is an internal measure of success.
T: What suggestions do you have for others looking to get into recruiting as a career?
A: Any opportunity a current recruiter or aspirational recruiter has to learn a new business or go outside their comfort zone will ultimately help them in the profession. It’s fun and valuable to learn about new industries, new positions, new people, and new processes. It’s helpful to learn as many aspects of your client’s business as you can. I find that business knowledge builds credibility, trust, and makes you better and more effective as a recruiter.
I also choose to be a part of TalentSpark because I had never been a part of a small business before, it was outside of my comfort zone, but I knew the people I had met were amazing and I was willing to take the risk to learn something new and grow.
T: What suggestions do you have for businesses considering RPO services?
A: When a business has a change in staffing or a seasonal ramp up, RPO services offer a way to keep their operations on the rails when there are changes.
Best summarized, RPO services are there when you need them and gone when you don’t. It’s a cost-effective service that helps companies manage the ups and downs in their recruiting volumes.
